The girlfriend’s laptop, with 512RAM Windows XP, has been running on Adobe CS2 for quite some time. It is so far so good. Until last few days, when she wanted to open Illustrator CS2, this message came out.

microsoft visual c++ runtime library
runtime error!
program: …rator CS2\support files\contents\windows\illustrator.exe
this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
please contact the application support team for more information.
Close and run the application again, still the same message. Turn off computer, still the same. She even tried the recovery system. Uninstall the program and install again, still the same. The frustration has get over her head since there was a pile of work to be done ASAP. Even the unpaid car insurance won’t make her as panic as that time.
When the panic time is over, then only she remembered about Google. -__-” There is no reason stated of why this runtime problem can occurred. The solution is pretty simple though.
Turn on the ‘view hidden file‘. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\~your_log-on_name\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe
Illustrator CS2 Settings. Delete Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings.
This simple click-and-delete really works. There goes the cloudy night.
Awesome, fixed it! Thanks very much.
Thanks – it helped
In
C:\Documents and Settings\BJARTUR.ASUSP4C800E.000\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings
I had to take out:
Ai Color Settings
AIAppResources

Thankyou! worked like a charm. Like the last person, I removed only the Ai Color Settings and AlAppResources.
This really worked for me. Face this problem because change the windows user account settings before.
I removed only the Ai Color Settings and AlAppResources.
Cheers.
That worked great, thank you very much.
This solution worked wonders! I also removed the Ai Color Settings and AIAppResources. I was thinking of removing the file that I was working on because I had thought it was corrupted. I am glad that I solved this beforehand. Thanks!
Yay! Thanks alot!
This worked perfectly. Thanks.

Hmm… do I kiss you for solving my problem, or google for finding your post… I guess I’ll kiss both of you (virtually).
Thank you!
