My browsers

I am in the middle of doing some research. Come Monday, there will e an intern coming in the office, so I am to write some contract to see which I need to included in the terms and conditions. Luckily NC health insurance or any benefit can be void for this one :P

Browsers

While I was doing my reseach online, my main browser (Google Chrome) started to act quite weird. It stop in the middle of loading a page, I mean, totally stop working, even my mouse, for like 3 seconds and more. Then it will load out a page and everything went normal. This had happen a few times in a row on opening a new tab.

So I figure I probably should try the secondary browser (Mozilla FireFox), at first it was smooth and responding. However, it started to act the same as Chrome did.

Heh, guess it’s the Windows issue then, don’t it? But what?!

Standard? For who?

When I first use laptop, it was an dinosaur laptop from my uncle. Running on Windows 98 in year 2002.

Old laptop

Big, heavy and slow. That’s all I can say. But hey, its that machine that helps building whatever I have today. I learn HTML and CSS by that little old machine! With 13 inch screen by the way.

Acer Aspire

Anyway, a 14 inch fitted nicely to majority laptop users, that is how it claim, and why there are thousand of model with 14 inch screen (Let’s not get into Apple product). So whose standard was that? 14 inch? I’m still prefer a larger 15 inch LCD screen instead.

HDMI cable

Nowadays, with HDMI plug, lots of laptop users are hooking up their laptop with a big LCD TV. This has to be thankful to Apple Computer. They are the first to move desktop to laptop, and improved lot of other laptop vendors to improve their product quality to enable us, to run laptop as if it is a desktop.

I haven’t been unplug my laptop for a week now by the way :P

Asus EEE Tablet

Asus EEE Tablet

It is a tablet
It runs Windows 7
It is a touch screen

A compete to Apple iPad?

Not exactly. We are now heading to “mobile” century. Most fashionable if not geek person likes to have one or two gadget that is mobile. Mobile phone has been widely used even a small children. Then we have mobile game console (Portable, a term we almost forgotten), then we have mobile computer (laptop), mobile hard drive and so on.

Like usual, the audience is different. Asus EEE Tablet seems like more business oriental while iPad, fashionable gadget.

Logo changed, but does others change too?

Ubuntu, one of the famous Linux distort at the moment, just made some changes on their logo :) It seems like human growth hormone is getting up and sound promising, with the later released LTS (Long Term Support)

Ubuntu web screenshot

However, I used Ubuntu since 5 something, until recently 9.10… Still very disappointed with the boot up speed :P

Like all those rumor around the Internet, Ubuntu is starting to make money from the users. From the storage to now, the music store. Well, not much of my field. All I am waiting for are just 2 things, very simple, 1, Adobe to be port into Linux distort; 2, Faster boot up time.

Looking back, Ubuntu seems like getting mature with its system. I did use Ubuntu for several month even though I am in web design, but mainly on coding. I somehow going to meet with some design someday, that is the day I am headache when I was with Ubuntu, which makes me take the move to Windows 7 instead.

Getting rid of computer viruses

How many Windows user never encounter a virus? Unless you’re not connect to Internet. Chances are, all Windows users knows about computer viruses, but little are aware of how to solve it.

Viruses

When you’re surfing online, be it online shop or insurance online, you are risking your computer.

Here are a few steps I find useful, according to my experience :(

Turn off system restore

System restore

Once you encounter a virus, turn off the system restore at once. Some virus can trace back into system restore and ruin all restoration the computer generated. This may result a total missing of files and folders.

Safe mode

Safe mode

When you log into safe mode, a lot services/processes will be stopped. Network is one of them. Some viruses depend on certain services/processes to work probably. There are times I log into safe mode, and delete the virus manually, and it works!

Anti virus, please?

Anti-virus

There are a few users don’t like to install anti-virus programs, they find it resources consuming and depend heavily on System Restore. The bad news is, if you don’t have an anti-virus program to warn you about virus, the virus may already ruin all your restoration. Formating become the way to kill the virus as well as your hard drive.

After a few experience of small and big viruses, I started to be very caution of websites I surf and program I download. Majority of computer users don’t like to read, especially a warning pop-up. They will blame it on Windows that is not working well, when the fact is the warning is to tell them what to be caution for.

These steps is no guaranteed though, but it may works under some virus.
