There were a few project request about sell textbooks online. That would require a big database and some other programming language to help ease the whole job. Imagine how long would it take or even just to coordinate with other programmers.

Unlike Amazon, where sellers can upload their books. Those request are from book store, wanting to ease their job and kick some salesmen off (I guess). My wife and I always takes thing easily. We would rather take on all small projects and complete in short time flame. Instead of taking the large one and tied with the project itself.

Yet again, we went outstation together, taking work slowly and easily. This time to Kuching, for passport renewal, since only Kuching has consulant of Indonesia in the whole Sarawak, sigh…

Speaking of which, I do have the “overly” working experience, and that is a real pain in the ass. Constipation tend to happen to me when I have things to rush on, or, haven’t finish a project when the deadline is near. Unless, I have everything settled down and ready for the deadline.

In my field, everything seems to be unpredictable. Well, to be honest, it was they who likes to work last minute and tend to think I could follow up with them.

I’ve lieterally tried thousand of detox treatment since my university life. But none seems to be too useful, beside a good amount of fruit.

Maybe I need to order my wife to get fruit for me from time to time on daily basis.

Don’t be hesitating with money

We don’t greed and go into corruption, that’s all. The rest is not greed, but a compulsory action to earn as much money as possible. Due to the respect and hesitating when dealing with money I give a step back and ended up where I am today… Tired!

Don’t get too close with sub-constractor

It is business, there won’t and hardly be any relationship happen in between. Due to my human nature, I tend to take everyone nicely and be-friended with. I took the very wrong step by joining him to venture together, making me earning a lot less than I expected.

It is just business

In a World of business, they are mean. As mean as a cold blooded crocodile. No one will come forward and send you some money if you don’t push yourself up a bit to get it. Make sure you know where you are and how much you worth, period!

This reminds me about gift I received and given out.

Coming from a typical Asian family, I reckon, we don’t normally send gift or even celebrate Christmas that much. As a Christian, the most we do, is just a dinner together, no present involved.

Well, since I just created my own family, I think it is time to bring in some western culture into the long-live Asian in me Christmas? Well, let’s make it big this year…

Recently, my old friend asked me to work on a branding for his business. Of course I am happy to take the challenge, it was my field years ago, but to pick it up, I thought it would be easy.

He listed a few things for me, from logo, to t-shirt to custom stationary and so on. My close partner who happen to be in branding field too, however, felt uncomfortable with it.

Well, nevertheless, we both agreed to reject this project (sound like I am not struggling for more jobs ) and focus solely on WordPress development at the moment. Seeing that we have been spending times and money on some advertisement, promotion and training. Hell we better focus on what we felt more confident and comfortable with.

Unlike deadbolt locks, this so-called GodMode actually is everything in Windows 7, but placing into a place, for easy finding and sorting.

Though I have enabled it myself, but I find myself not opening it, since I already know where to go for each setting. As a normal Windows users, I think much security, account setting and etc are not necessary for me to setup.

While I was doing my reseach online, my main browser (Google Chrome) started to act quite weird. It stop in the middle of loading a page, I mean, totally stop working, even my mouse, for like 3 seconds and more. Then it will load out a page and everything went normal. This had happen a few times in a row on opening a new tab.

So I figure I probably should try the secondary browser (Mozilla FireFox), at first it was smooth and responding. However, it started to act the same as Chrome did.

Heh, guess it’s the Windows issue then, don’t it? But what?!

WP-Optimize

After having some experience with the server load on a few hosting, I learnt my lesson the hard way. This is to make sure everything working well with your WordPress engine, or else it may mess up with the server resources, which may result a suspended account.

Akismet

I have to say, Akismet is annoying by the kind that it needs a unique API to activate. Probably Automattic is doing some survey on number of people using Akismet, but still, it is annoying. I would expect plugins to be activated with a click.

Search Everything

Most WordPress developers wanted to have a better search in WordPress. The built-in WordPress search is not functioning well, in fact, it does not search well too! That may be the only downside of WordPress, that’s why Google custom search kicks in. Search everything is, well, search everything on your WordPress site

Probably I am too neat, I don’t like too much plugins. Most other functions like Twitter updates, Popular entries list or etc, I prefer to use hack instead. I have my own framework to work on, that has most things ready for me

Now you may wonder why I did not list any SEO-related plugins. Well, I’m just not that into SEO yet. The main concern for me about SEO is the content and how well it linked to another page, or probably how you use your permalink. That my friend, is priceless and cannot be done with plugins.

After a year of Windows 7 user, I would say, this is one good operating system, like Windows XP SP3. However, Windows 7 still taking much memory and resources and cause heat on my laptop like how my Macbook heat problem. Win 7 up, Mac OS X down in market share wars we see how Windows 7 a success of Windows Vista

What can I say, it’s the colourful World and people. That is the most valuable lesson I’ve learnt in this town since the day I moved to this town, again.

When you step into a World that deal with people, you’ll see all kind of human being. It’s not something Client From Hell can tell, it’s more than that. If you happen to watch HK TVB: Beyond The Realm Of Conscience, you probably know what I mean.

The whole thing has finally reach full stop. Now it’s time to give full force on WordPress and its development, has been abandon it for weeks

Yes, progress can be a killer. That is what I have to blog about today, to maintain a good balance of myself.

Well, after looking into the matter. What I see wrong is – Communication. There are lots of holes in all the communication when the project was first initialed.

First, the dealer. He who did not give me second contact and did not let me know first hand that he will be having vacation after this week, which the project should be finish next week. Well, God showed me the way before he leave the airport and he gave me the second contact – The carpenter.

Second, the carpenter. I asked to know see the progress in the factory, but they refuse and told me that they are build according to the design the dealer gave them. I keep wanting to see the progress as the material is quite sensitive thing. Ended up it was wrong but I did make the correction after that, however, the carpenter, insist that there is no material like I mentioned.

Thirdly, the partner of the dealer. I never met him before, and I did have a phone conversation with him before. Well, on the phone conversation, when they did the wrong material, he insist me to accept the item, which I declined. Today he shows up, and give me the evil look thinking I’m some sort of jerk. After a short conversation with the carpenter (apparently he insist on using the wrong material), he raised his voice thinking I’m fooling them for keep changing the material.

See, overall, the communication and the insist of a customer right did not reach and ended up an unhappy day. Tomorrow starts another day, and this time, the dealer is back. Things will be clearer.

However, the good this is, I still manage to catch one or two new thing in my main field – Web. Well, not exactly.

So what is this LEMP? Linux, EngineX, Mysql, PHP. Most server are still using LAMP, the Apache instead of EngineX.

Engine X (a.k.a nginx) is said to be running faster than Apache and can handle bigger queries and databases than Apache and its a light-weight engine.

Anyway, I have trouble looking for an install-able version of LEMP on my localhost Anyone has any idea?

Delete System Restore

First, delete the System Restore. It may sound stupid for some, but really it taking too much space for nothing. If your computer running well yesterday, by all mean, delete the rest of the backup. Since Windows XP, Windows has System Restore to automatically backup your system everytime you install an application, deleting them will leave only yesterday’s backup. So it is fine, if your computer running well yesterday.

Cleaning the cache and all

Clean thoroughly! This is the harder part, and normally user depending on third party software. I personally recommend CCleaner. I’ve been using it for years and it still keep updating and running well even in Windows 7 Oh, it’s a freeware, don’t worry. This little thing clean almost every possible aspect in Windows, even broken or empty registries!

Arrange the files

Alright, this is one of the most headache process, for some. Since Windows 98, I’ve been doing defragmentation from time to time, normally 6 months once. But it took too much time if you ever do that. I normally use Auslogic BootSpeed, a shareware cost USD49.95. It worth the money than any other I’ve tried. However, there is this free version of disk defrag for download, which works pretty well too.

Web design, WordPress development, xHTML/CSS coding

All I did is all these web related, but not so much related too. Web design, is on of the job I tried to get rid off and focus mainly in WordPress development. The differences between xHTML/CSS coding and WordPress development is that coding need the skills, but WordPress development need the time and experiment and of course, some programming language. However, in current situation, the low pay I have, I need to work on web design as well, and all the rest. Time is chasing me for weeks!

Machines and arrangement

My uncle was a mad man when it comes to business. Since I have a wife or relationship in Indonesia, he tend to ask me to arrange his machine to be import to Malaysia. That alone may require me a 5 times calling and 10 times SMS to Indonesia.

Construction

Recently just jumped into the field. Due to some Heavenly-dropped-chance, I secured a construction deal with some big corporate. However, due to my first time and inexperiences in the field, I’m juggling to the site from time to time to make sure everything is running alright.

Alright, I still need to get back to work… For the 3 main things I’ve been doing all the time

Now what?

This question is crucial for the starter. I have been a web developer for 2 group of people who know their goal, have everything ready, but lack of system.

As a friend, and my previous entry tells me, I am better get myself off the people who I don’t know well, so I am just a developer for them, for free, as a friend (reminded me another topic next entry )

The problem is the system, or in bigger group, management. While you have everything ready, it is time to plan a timeline, a strategy and a discussion group. They have a bad system, I have to be here and there with different people telling different timeline. Discussion group was not attend by everybody, can’t have a strategy that agreed together.

After a few times of discussion with them, I finally made the move to, move out of the project. As I see it, it is a waste of time even working for free. If a project can be success, I would be glad to become a part of it even if I work for free; but if a project is failing, why waste the time?
