Many have came to IE6 funeral on 1st of March 2010.

Imagine everyone, web designer majority, came with all their tuxedos on, have the happiest face they ever have had. That is how the funeral looks like.

Anyway speaking of IE6, there are lots of memories to talk about. Here are what we did together…

Geocities

Before web, I was a mIRC geek Long after mIRC, it seems that everyone has a IRC channel website, which prompted me to learn web design with, Geocities

Table and more table

After a few month fooling around with Geocities WYSIWYG system, I finally took the time to learn about HTML, which is all about… Table. I still remember how I struggle to remember what tr and td do… Until I found out Microsoft Frontpage was a great tools dealing with all the table It was HTML 1.0 and 2.0 back then.

Firefox

Well, all thanks to IE6 then I finally found Firefox an alternative that works pretty damn well. Especially on the security wise. Back then, IE6 doesn’t block pop-up and very easily got into malware and adware, which I ended up formated my computer, which running Windows 98 back then, it was easy to install the whole system though, taking that the drivers aren’t that much back then.

Hopefully, IE6 percentage will come down soon. As I checked the stat IE6 taking 40% of overall 100% IE browsers Well, I don’t support IE6 nowadays anyway…

It seems to me like Microsoft is taking it step, after the success of Windows 7. I love Windows 7 for its stability and the speed, period! I am not into cloud computing at the moment, I probably don’t mind a lot about it Well, until that one day…

However, recently Microsoft taking the step on this pirate copy. Microsoft going to release an update (I’m sure it will be one of the important update) to target the activation hack.

Sad thing, it is going to happen like how Windows XP activation. On the first day of the update release, hackers will find a way to know which update to void and how to activate it and install the next update.

This is the war Microsoft has been fighting with hackers around the World. My opinion? Good luck

Well, surely you do miss something out when you’re freelancing at home or office. Due to the wide area to be taken care of, little thing like insurance, contract or even tax are always one that is missing in the list of a freelancer. Well, my wife and I are both freelancing at home, so we divided jobs among us, so I’m kind of free from some missing list

Insurance

We are not disable, so there is not much of benefit we are getting like social security disability insurance that helps disable in medical care. Most freelance job require sitting in front of computer, some serious injuries are often a common illness. My wife and I finally get our medical card Did you forgot about this, since you’ve been sitting there for day long?

Contract

Contract is like a protection to a freelancer. It surely the best way if you found a long-term service require from a company that hired you. A lot of freelancer forgot about contract and ended up their long-term became short-term. Client always around to look for a better offer, be it on price or service. I am now writing my contract

Framework

Let’s face it, freelancers always wanted to work on the speed and get more job done than less. Framework is a good start, anything has its own framework, a Word document with nicely formatted, a PSD with guide ready and so on. Previously it took me 3 hours to code a Wordpress theme without a framework. Now, it only take 1 hour

I believe there are more to go, but I did not notice anything at the moment. If you have some idea about it, do share in comment

So, after few days of holidays and eating all the time in this Chinese New Year, I am now officially looking for a diets that work, exercise, more running or any sort of thing. However, let me get something on about the Internet, again – Social Media
I don’t recall any of my friends and relative that don’t know about Facebook. So I jumped into the fire and see what I can get from there.

Facebook fan page

Look in dept about the fan page, it is in the link named “Advertising“, Facebook has already classified Pages as an advertising tool. The last thing you would need to do is to promote the Page using their advertising program, which of course so specific that you can choose country, age, sex and even profession.

Facebook update

The good thing about social media is the news goes faster than satellite. Promotion? Create a heat topic? Teaser ads? All up to the updates. The last thing you need is a psychologist and a good copywriter

Facebook game

It was named as game so users will stays on the page for some times. That is the golden time for the advertiser to advertise anything they wanted. Look at the game you’re clicking in Facebook, do they have some banner shinning in front? That’s how it works, first, create any games, you play it and spare it and everyone looking at it. The con is that game is harder to target into specific group. But it works for the advertiser in long-run.

I am still seeing and research on Facebook. I believe the value of Facebook is on the advertiser and the user database

Since I’ve been asked numerous time about a good website. Some of them are competitors, well, it’s not exactly a secret anyway

First, we need to know how SEO works. Of course a best seo software could help your site a lot, but if you can apply some of these tip, it sure do better too.

Meta tagging the keyword and your site description

A lot of search engine are looking into the meta tag for your site’s content. So make sure you have the necessary meta tag, especially with the description and the keywords.

Validate XHTML and CSS

This is the requirement of most web designers nowadays. Because neat and validate code helps improve the loading speed, and lead to search engine love

Link in and link out

That doesn’t work with advertisement. Most webmasters knows only link from the outside, but they abide the link inside their page. Both works well, don’t be lazy, look around your site and see if you’re actually referring to it then link to it, even it is the previous entry.

I am no master to SEO, but I like to design and code some site that is neat enough. Google is a good friend, be it an answer or a web friend

I’m pretty sure you know all the hip about Google Buzz. But what exactly is Google Buzz?

Well, I am not sure too. However, I do sense some “Twitter” in Google

Let me just keep thing short by story line.

Google thought that it is time to let all consumer to use a light-weight yet fast netbook, so they jumped into the Operating System field and thinking to kill off Linux first than Mac OSX (because they are the easiest one if compare to the 80% market share). All of the sudden, they know that they are lacking some more important – Activity online. Which is why Google has Google Wave to kill off Facebook with their status update and friend list. Maybe, the R&D told them that Twitter actually raising and has more than 4 billions tweets every month, and they goes “Why not a Twitter?“. The easiest way out is to create Google Buzz and built-in with Gmail which lots of consumers will open a tab specially for their mail.

Of course that is not the best sleeping pills for Google and all the employees in there. Here are what I dislike about Google Buzz.

That is Twitter update

Twitter update, it is happening so users tweet. Make it real-time, not batch it once in a while, and… And, are you nut? Sending me an email telling me Google have batched the updates?

2 inboxes?

So I’ll have to check 2 inboxes now? One is the mail inbox and another one is the buzzing-bizzing-bin? I would like to use iGoogle too, but the Gmail widget is now working too well. Maybe, improve and make sure everything works well first?

It is every way in my buzz… Inbox (?)

Cut short the entry, especially those who place their blog RSS. Make it works like Google Reader!

I seriously started to have doubt of those big company this days…

A few point needed to be take seriously if you’re thinking about jumping into freelance. I was lucky enough to have a wife who is also a freelance Mainly she will remind me of lots of things…

Stop social network is not necessary

First thing people go online was to check their Facebook friends’ update and then, click here and there and started to get lost in the social network. Which is why I did not login to any social network beside Twitter

The real demon

<img src="http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/wongpk/OSGround/television.jpg" alt="Television class="alignleft" />
I think the only thing that can really let me stay still is TV. Turn off all the TVs and stay still on your seat. That’s what my wife would tell me to do most of the time.

Mobile phone

Not a very big deal, but it does give interruption too. Especially when you have an urgent job on hand, it is recommended that you turn off the mobile phone, just in case somebody call in and start interrupting I normally place my mobile phone in my room while I’m working in my small office corner.

I seriously need to get to work and be more discipline Instead of wasting time here… Especially when I have a goal setup to achieve within this year

Currently the market still using barcode. One of the advantage of using barcode is it is easy to maintain and count, computerise made easy that hour of time. Even today, a lot of package comes with a barcode and calculating made easy too with barcode scanners.

However, in 1994 Japan created another code that is even better, contain a lot more information than a barcode can do – QR Code. I personally has been looking out for the QR code development, and hoping that one day, it will arrive in my country, which of course I would have reason to cut down lots of paper in just one small card. Believe it, in Japan, QR code is so common that even a mobile phone can scan the code and read the content.

Recently while my wife and I working on our legal document, her country started to use QR code too on the letter they (government) issued us. I mean, come on, it’s Indonesia, some say it is third World country?… Maybe no eh?

So there are lots of rumor about Apple tablet. Steve Jobs finally reveal it and named it as “iPad”. With some limitation on the device, all the fanbois and gals started to blame for the limited functions.

iPad definitely works like a glass tile, the more tile it has the better. Each tile run one applications andwe’ll have multi tasking I love this parody the most!

I would personally get an iPad if:

There is a USB port, Memory card slot
How you you expect us to use the device if we have things from external? Email as attachment and download it?

Like a computer
At the moment, the iPad looks and feels like an iPod touch for me. Look at the front screen…

The price, seriously, is a good one that I would go for, but not the whole function. Rumor has that Apple has another tablet which is more like a computer in progress, but we’ll see it. I really don’t think that a netbook, tablet (whatever you call it) to cost more than USD500…

Remember back in October 2009, when I mentioned that I bought a good nice thing called “electronic cigarette“? After using them for a few months, I think about time to give a review

First off, it is a damn good idea. I like how it help reduce the cancer percentage, by eliminating the TAR and all others 4000+ chemicals. So, it means that it does supply nicotine too, right? In short, it means, keep smoking, but healthily.

Well, like mentioned, it helps reduce the percentage of getting cancer, but it does not stop you from enjoying a cigarette. However, my initial point of getting the device was to totally quit smoking habit, which is… I guess, not about device, it’s about will.

For a few years I’ve mentioned about quitting smoke, but haven’t really done that yet. This year, perhaps is the resolution? Heh, like some say, new year is just like coming from yesterday, do what you should, new year doesn’t give you a new start So I’ll need the will right now, right here
