Big, heavy and slow. That’s all I can say. But hey, its that machine that helps building whatever I have today. I learn HTML and CSS by that little old machine! With 13 inch screen by the way.

Anyway, a 14 inch fitted nicely to majority laptop users, that is how it claim, and why there are thousand of model with 14 inch screen (Let’s not get into Apple product). So whose standard was that? 14 inch? I’m still prefer a larger 15 inch LCD screen instead.

Nowadays, with HDMI plug, lots of laptop users are hooking up their laptop with a big LCD TV. This has to be thankful to Apple Computer. They are the first to move desktop to laptop, and improved lot of other laptop vendors to improve their product quality to enable us, to run laptop as if it is a desktop.

I haven’t been unplug my laptop for a week now by the way

While I was in a gym the other day, with all sort of common gym machine like ellipticals, some dumbbell and etc. I saw a few thing happening as well.

Electronic devices has become so common that almost everyone owns a few, not just one. A laptop, or perhaps a desktop PC, it is almost a must in every house hold. Then we have small devices that multi functions as a phone, a mp3 player, camera, voice recorder, you name it. That we call it as mobile phone, or iPhone. Lastly, the almost extincted device, mp3 player, a very common device for people who do the same thing and don’t talk much daily

We started to depend on the electronic device more and more. Are we going to be controlled by electronic???

With all the technology and mobility devices nowadays, it is quite a hard decision to made when it comes to getting the next computer. I personally owned 2 laptops, and they are both sweet One is a Mac, one is a PC. However, the time of choosing another new computer has come. It’s for my partner, colleague, wife

Starting December, we will start off our business. However, we are both dilemma in choosing the next computer. We made some list of pros and cons for S.O.H.O to have a desktop and laptop.

Desktop

Good – Power wise

Good – Long terms upgrade

Good – Low maintain

Bad – Size and weight

Bad – High power consumption

Laptop

Good – Portability

Good – Asset renewal after 2/3 years

Bad – Small and heat

Bad – Easy to be stolen

Bad – One broker means the whole laptop into repair shop

We ended up coming back to square one But whatever it is, we are still on our first step now. Looking forward to see more new models coming out

I am in the middle of struggling of desktop and laptop. Recently I felt like I’m lack of computer to use, I mean a useful one Anyway, laptop or desktop that’s my concern. Since I move around quite a lot (As in moving my room/place etc, not walking to another place). The thing is, I’m so used to have a small screen First year in college I was using my sister’s desktop running at Pentium 3, 1GHz, 512MB RAM, coming with a 14″ CRT monitor. Then I moved along with my Macbook with 13.3″ LCD screen and now back to PC laptop that has about 14.1″ LCD screen, all of those taking me a great 5 years and still with less than 17″ screen. My eyes…

Here are my concern:
Desktop

Cost about the same, but with bigger screen

Not convenient for me to move around

I can play with hardware instead of software

Consume more electricity than laptop that run with 6 cell battery

Upgradable, which mean it has a longer lifespan

Expandable, can add more hardware/storage and etc

Require some space on my table or my room

Laptop

Cost the same as dekstop, but smaller screen

Can move when and where I want anytime

Software again, but Ubuntu can be main used then

Consume less electric but the UV from screen is strong

Cannot upgrade, life-span about 4 years or maybe 5

Feeling stupid to do such a comparison. But anyway, I’ve checked into the market price listing. I can easily get a good spec (Almos the same spec with my current laptop) for about RM1800 and for desktop, I could get a good and big LCD screen to help my eyes. Using a laptop is just like a desktop having a diet pill, shrink down a little bit. The cost is almost the same after all. But whatever I’ll be choosing, the front part is still $$…

Just for the sake of posting something here since the connection today seems to be pretty good Just to share some simple thing though. Speaking about turning off computer, I mean laptop actually are made to be easy. Let’s just take my Macbook as an esample, pressing the on/off button will come out this warning window…

Well, another press on “Enter” will do the work. However, some people joke about turning off windows need to go to “Start”, which for a laptop, is not truth. Simply press the on/off button will do too.

And this little thing that looks like emergency lights will switch off the laptop in no time. So just becareful when typing on speed with the keyboard.

Recently I bought this new laptop for good. Due to my heavy commitment on web developing, I desperately needing some IE and some other 3D software that run only in PC. Initially I was thinking to convert or using bootcamp on my Macbook, but after thinking a while, I’ve got a defeated DVD ROM with very limited hard disk space on my Macbook. So I go with a new laptop instead. However, Macbook is gonna be with my younger sister soon though.

Back to the laptop. Acer Aspire 4930 come with Linpus linux operating system. Due to some software requirement, I formatted it into Windows XP, the one I haven’t been using for the pass 2 years. However, the drivers CD that comes with this laptop was Vista compatible only, which means I’ll have to look for the drivers myself. My research came out a lot on 4930G model, though it has a better graphic card, the rest are still the same. It was a breeze experience back with Windows XP nonetheless. This is my Aspire spec:

Intel C2D 2.0GHz T5800
3GB DDR2 RAM
160GB HDD
GMA 4500MHD
Dolby Sound System
802.11 g/b/Draft-N
Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
5 in 1 card reader

Overall the performance is way better than the previous desktop I’ve tested (Dell Inspiron and HP Pavilion), probably because they’re running on Dual Core only. There will be more about Windows soon
