It may sound like closing outdoor cushions when we speak about Linux users – Geek. Majority computer users still thought about Linux as a command-based system, that they may lost in the middle of booting the computer. That’s so wrong and I would like to give some correction on this matter.

One of my favourite Linux distro is none other than ubuntu. I have been and still encourage those office-use computer to install on it. It’s free, it runs well in some old computer (save money in long-run) and it is stable. As for my profession as a web developer, it helps on my testing too.

I almost can’t believe myself when I first doing a web design for a client back then. I used the pre-installed image manipulation software GIMP to do it. Here are a few things I need to emphasize on…
Stable server
Not only you don’t need to worry about viruses, marewares or even trojan. You don’t have to worry about the localhost too. In Windows or Mac, you may need to install a third party program. While in Linux, it has almost build it on running .php
Somehow, all my websites and client’s sites are hosted on a Linux machine, that make me easier to test the site locally before launching the sites.
Do more
Ubuntu has most applications installed. A browser, email client, GIMP and text/code editor. It’s all there, without any program to be installed. No worries about viruses, no need of installation again, that definitely save a lot of time and let me work on more important stuff.
However, web design is still my first priority job. Photoshop CS3 has been a good companion compare to GIMP. Ubuntu, see you in my next netbook

Picasa, one of the application I love the most, be it in Mac, Windows or Ubuntu. In Ubuntu, it runs very well, though it runs under Wine. No comment or rant. Comparing with F-Spot (which is pre-installed in all Ubuntu installation), Picasa is way simple than F-Spot which will create lots of folder and duplicate the files into another folder, which consider a disk eater for me.

Anyway, thinking that Wine has been working so well with Picasa, I thought I’ll give it a try on another application – Opera. I downloaded the Linux *.deb, I am not sure if it run under Wine, but the interface tells me it is running under Wine though.
Well, it ended up Opera has lots of problem with my system. From unable to type anything, to slow loading and everything come. I am still looking for a better alternative of browsers. Hmm…
This has been done thousand of time, some of my friend even stick to Mac OS on their PC. No more waiting to save money until acne coming out just for an Apple product. Now, it comes to me about the Mac and PC machine, when I say machine, it’s about machine. Of course it’s more or less about the operating system as well.

1, Mac and PC, now it’s only about the machine. Nothing big about the machine anymore. Ever since Mac OSX can be installed in a PC, everyone tend to buy a PC or some PC clone came to the market.
2, It’s about design now. Though some (If not most) people still using PC. It depend though, some people buy a Mac machine because it is the Mac design, people will know he/she is using a Mac. Ok, it’s the ego
Or sometimes, it’s about ethic.
3, Software. There’re actually 3 type of operating systems in the market. The revolution of using Intel on a Mac makes the possible of all operating systems to be install in all kind of computer. We’re all living in a great world isn’t it
Last thing I know, Apple better legalize and sell Mac OSX operating system only.
Adobe could port its Creative Suite…to Linux as a shot across Redmond’s bow. Then the company should embrace Linux in-house and develop a complete, optimized Linux OS designed to run a high-performance version of its Creative Suite on Linux optimized for Adobe products, to be sold as a bootable bundle for multicore-workstation hardware. Some said that Adobe coming into Linux
The operating system that I would really like to stick with for a long time. Due to the limitation of graphic related software, I can’t help but “downgrade” to PC and Mac
Well, I don’t think implementing Adobe into Linux is that hard though, remember MAc is also Linux-based and running very smooth with Adobe. I’m pretty sure if Adobe manage to do it, I’ll also be one of the first person convert to Linux and have my day in crib bedding

Maybe I used to Ubuntu, who cares about others, it always my choice when it comes to Linux. Sure I’ll be more relax using Ubuntu even compare to Mac, I shit you not! Unless, technical issue
