Personal branding and apology

First of all, I would like to say sorry, this blog was suppose to be an operating systems related blog, but it ends up to be some kind of internet related blog. Some of my friends asked me why I don’t post any tips and tricks and etc about operating systems. Well my friends, tips and tricks of ANY operating systems are now fully packed available around the internet, just Google, Yahoo!, Ask, MSN it and you’ll get tons that you couldn’t finish. To be frank, due to the paid post I’ve been writing and the keywords were all around the life, insurance, credit card and etc has gotten me here today. Let’s put it this way now, this is a blog ON operating systems, there you go, sound much more to do than sticking with operating systems only :P This blog is one of my best acne treatment, although there was some lack of update recently, but don’t worry, once I have my stuff off update will be frequent.

Done my apology and my explanation, allow me to continue the main topic :D Very quick, personal branding. I’ve been following with Fakesteve blog and Chedet (Former Malaysia Prime Minister blog) for sometimes, and they have a good branding of themselves. But I would say Fakesteve would champion all the way on personal branding. As most people know that Fakesteve isn’t the real Steve Jobs, but I don’t want to care first, doesn’t matter he is or he isn’t, the branding and getting the most out from the blog is very successful.
Fake Steve Jobs blog
This guy (Let’s say it’s someone else) has a very clear mind and understanding of Steve Jobs. Along the way, all the entries made were consistent, the pride and the arrogance are all over the blog. From the first day I clicked into this blog, it already has Google Adsense there, after a period, Amazon was in then blah blah blah, all in. And I predicted that this guy behind the blog must have something wanted to do with this blog. Look into the most recent entry, he is writing a book now, costing? Heh, don’t mention.

Now you think the book is can’t sell? First, Steve Jobs has been storming the computer industry since 2002 (As I know, correct me if I’m wrong) after the come back on 1997. “Apple Mac” became something that is so familiar few years back, then came iPhone that storming the whole mobile phone industry. If you’re still wondering what could you do to make some traffic (Read: TRAFFIC ok?) from your blog, “Steve Jobs” could be a keyword you can choose ;)

Set Desktop Background With Automator

Well, there isn’t this click that let you set your desktop background (Wallpaper for Windows users) in Mac, you’ll need to go to the System Preferences and click on Desktop then click on the folder and look for your picture, what a hassle to do all this just to get to change your background isn’t it? Look at what I have…
Automator plug in Set as desktop
By the way, I don’t need to open the picture too, all I need to do is just right-click (CTRL+Click) at the icon and I get to change it in no time. That’s the wonder of Automator! Today, I’m going to tell you how to do it in just a few steps ;) It’s very simple actually, open Automator and look into both of these:
Automator
Simple eh? Once you’re there, drag and drop the “Set the Desktop Picture” into another column:
Done with Automator set desktop picture
You’re done, all you need is to save this file into a plug-in in order to let the Automator on your right-click (CTRL+Click) to work…
Automator save as plug in
You can name the plug in to whatever you like, as long as you remember :P

Beside this, I find that bulk rename and bulk resize or simply resize one file can be useful for some people as well. Previously I use this little software name ExifRenamer to bulk rename all my pictures/videos files, as I thought there wasn’t any other thing that can bulk rename, until I found the power of Automator ;) The rest will be on next entry :P

To Change Or Not To

Currently I’m on a dilemma situation, I’ve been thinking to change my babe :P Macbook to Compaq laptop (Presario V3000). What I experience from Macbook is fine, it’s totally a fine ass machine, but when it comes to softwares, I’m really doubt that, secondly, Mac isn’t that hot in Malaysia yet, so you can imagine how hard I communicate with my friends about softwares and stuff like that.
Compaq Presario v3000
I’ve been eyeing this machine for sometimes, although it’s a bit old here, but judging from the specification it has, I don’t think it can’t beat a Mac, including the price too. So I sit down and do some revalue management on both Macbook and Compaq…

Macbook Value:
Due to the sky high price, it stop quite a lot of people from buying Mac product, but looking into the life span a Mac has, it’s amazingly long comparing to any PC, be it a desktop or laptop. PC running Pentium 4 is hard to run Vista now, but iBook G4 can run Mac OSX Leopard smoothly. The life span is way longer than PC and hence the price is higher too. Getting a Mac product let say RM5000 can be used up to 5 to 8 years.

PC Value:
Due to the popularity that it has, 80% of the population in this world using it. Price is one thing, familiarity is a bonus. Judging from the life span, as you can see, 3 to 5 years would be the maximum life span for a PC, for example, my friend who bought her laptop 3 years ago, after a few update from Windows XP SP1 to SP3, causing her to have a lagging laptop, in other word, time to change a laptop, it’s just a short 3 years, don’t even try to mention about Vista on her laptop ok?! price tagged at RM3800.

I’m still thinking. Due to my finance difficulty at this moment, I think I’ll stick to what I have now :P Getting an extra desktop is a dream now…

Download Speed

Having a Safari doesn’t really guarantee the download speed, although Safari was claimed to be the fastest browser on earth, when it comes to download using Safari, it will be on the ok stage, that’s why there were lots of bittorent application created for Windows for faster sharing and download. Well, Mac has his own bittorent, but due to some reason, the ISP here blocking bittorent speed :( Worry not, Speed Download is here for the help!
Speed download 5
Speed download helps to boost all the download speed using a few more connection together. It will automatic resume the previous download in case anything happen on your computer and you need a restart (Don’t ever think Mac don’t need to do this, just wait if it haven’t happen on you.), it can share like bittorent, it has FTP built in as well. But most of all…
Speed download
I just want the download speed it increased on my download. This is so Oh-my-God!
